Hot-dip galvanized wire has longer service life and better corrosion resistance than ordinary steel wire. Hot dip galvanizing is a method of chemical combination of zinc metal and steel wire surface, through the formation of a strong and self-healing zinc-iron alloy protective layer on the steel wire surface, so as to prevent direct contact between the steel wire and the external environment, reduce the possibility of oxidation corrosion, and extend the service life of the steel wire.

Galvanized iron wire is divided into hot galvanized wire and cold galvanized wire, using low carbon steel wire processing, after drawing molding, pickling rust removal, high temperature annealing, hot galvanized, cooling and other processes. It has good toughness and elasticity, and the amount of zinc can reach 300 grams/square meter. It has the characteristics of thick galvanized layer and strong corrosion resistance. But there are some necessary precautions in the production of galvanized wire. Remove all tools and piles on the work site and equipment that hinder activities, and slowly put the wire into the cylinder during pickling to prevent acid splashing on the body. When adding acid, the acid must be slowly poured into the water. Do not pour water into the acid to prevent acid spillage and injury. Workers should wear protective glasses when working. Then in the handling of wire and other items, it is strictly prohibited to push hard.

6. What happens next?

Having thus described the origin and uses of the pigment, we now come to the question, what is lithopone? It is, in short, a chemical compound usually consisting of 30.5 per cent zinc sulphide, 1.5 per cent zinc oxide and 68 per cent barium sulphate, but these proportions vary slightly in the different makes. Lithopone of this composition is sold as the highest grade, either as red seal or green seal, as it best suits the idea of the manufacturer. Many manufacturers, especially in Europe, sell and also export other brands under other seals, containing 24, 20, 18 and as little as 12 per cent of zinc sulphide with very small percentages of zinc oxide, the balance being usually barium sulphate, but sometimes certain portions of China clay or gypsum (calcium sulphate) or whiting (calcium carbonate). Such brands are not a chemical compound, but mechanical mixtures of the chemically compounded lithopone and the admixtures referred to.

At the present JECFA meeting, the committee considered additional toxicological studies relevant to the safety assessment of the chemical that investigated its toxicokinetics, acute toxicity, short-term toxicity, long-term toxicity and carcinogenicity, genotoxicity, and reproductive and developmental toxicity, as well as special studies addressing its short-term initiation/promotion potential for colon cancer. The experts acknowledged that a large number of toxicological studies have been conducted using test materials, including nanoparticles, having size distributions and physico-chemical properties not comparable to real-world uses of titanium dioxide as a food additive. The studies on non-representative materials were evaluated by JECFA, but the committee concluded that such studies are not relevant to the safety assessment of the additive.
